Valley Lutheran Senior Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist

Valley Lutheran high school senior Danielle Behnke has been named a semifinalist in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Behnke is one of 16,000 semifinalists who will compete for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships with more than $32 million offered next spring.

About 1.6 million juniors entered the program by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. Behnke is in the one percent of high school seniors named a semifinalist.

To become a finalist, Behnke and Valley Lutheran must submit a detailed scholarship application, providing information about her academic record, participation in school and community activities, leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.

On top of her outstanding academic record, Behnke must also be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT scores that confirm her earlier performance on the PSAT/NMSQT.

Behnke’s parents are Timothy and Heidi Behnke. They reside in Brant. Finalists will be announced in February and scholarship winners between April and July.
