| Duties: | Duties:
-Oversees daily maintenance and grounds work providing daily care for buildings and grounds including routine preventative care. Provide necessary and sometimes emergency maintenance needs to zoo buildings, exhibits, and grounds.
-Work directly with maintenance and grounds staff; open, inspect, and close rides; secure vehicles, buildings, and perimeter fence for overnight.
-Assist Physical Plant Director to coordinate and/or perform in-house maintenance needs through a work order system; maintain maintenance records, perform research for repairs and/or improvements, coordinate work with outsourced suppliers and contractors, further develop routine and preventative care of the Zoo.
The ideal candidate would:
-Have experience with skid-steer, quad-running, lawn & garden equipment and power tool operation; ability to read manuals;
-Have acceptable understanding of the building trade and construction techniques, very basic understanding of mechanical and electrical trades
-Have basic computer knowledge and web familiarity
-Be able to plan with foresight for things that need to be done and have the drive and ability to carry out the work; be an effective supervisor and communicator
-Be supportive, democratic, flexible, and positive in daily work environment working as a team member and maintaining viable relationships with visitors, staff, volunteers, vendors, and suppliers
-Be able to problem solve with the capacity to troubleshoot issues and apply good judgement; have enthusiasm for challenges and ability to work effectively with others
Requirements:
This position requires moderate to high physical capacity. Incumbent must be physically able to perform all required duties including the ability to lift and carry fifty or more pounds and work in all weather conditions. This position involves frequent walking, stooping, lifting, carrying, pulling/pushing, bending, reaching, crouching, and may require repetitive movements. Exposure to potentially irritating materials such as hay, dust, and pollen are high. Available weekends, evenings and holidays. |
| Experience Required: | Education: High School Diploma and 1-2 years supervisory experience and/or 1-2 years construction experience. |
