| Duties: | RESPONSIBLE TO: Saginaw County Juvenile Center Coordinator.
NUMBER OF OPENINGS: One (1), full-time position for the 2017-2018 school year.
GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Saginaw County Juvenile Detention Center Coordinator, the Reading Specialist Instructor will primarily focus on providing targeted students interventions and instruction to improve reading levels and provide mentoring to students placed at the Saginaw County Juvenile Detention Center.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
1. Provide instruction and assessment to targeted 4th - 12th grade students in the area of reading.
2. Utilize assessments to provide specific interventions to students in the area of reading.
3. Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly in the area of reading.
4. Provide encouragement and motivation in order to prepare students for transitioning to their home districts.
5. Mentor students in decision-making and file reports that detail individual assessments, provide insight to current situation, and opportunities for future action plan efforts.
6. Communicate regularly with student transition liaison and program coordinator on student progress and concerns.
7. Participate in and pursue personal learning on the topics of poverty, at-risk, student engagement, and interventions.
8. Participate in all facility trainings on security, communications, and protocols.
9. Maintain student records on interventions provided and create student growth documents to share with home districts.
10. Work closely with the Saginaw ISD Literacy Coach to insure proper implementation of interventions and reading instruction best practice.
COMPENSATION: As per Saginaw Intermediate School District’s Teacher contract. |
| Experience Required: | MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
1. Shall possess valid Michigan Teachers Certification with one of the following endorsements:
a. Reading Specialist (BR)
b. Reading (BT)
c. Language Arts (BX)
d. English (BA)
2. Physical Education Endorsement preferred, but not required.
3. Shall be familiar with multiple forms of technology.
4. Must demonstrate knowledge of working with high at-risk student populations.
5. Must have knowledge of, demonstrate confidentiality practices, and maintain confidentiality of work, work product, etc. at all times.
6. Must have highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal.
7. Demonstrated proficiency, accuracy, and timeliness in the handling of detailed work assignments.
8. Must be highly organized; demonstrate initiative and be a self-starter in the completion of tasks, assignments and projects.
9. Must be able to communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and school administrators.
10. Must be able to work successfully with students, parents, staff, advocacy groups, and the community.
11. Must be able to work well with others as a team member in a work team environment.
12. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
13. Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
14. Willingness to learn and utilize basic computer software programs.
15. Must have good references. |
