| Duties: | RESPONSIBLE TO: Saginaw County Juvenile Center Coordinator.
NUMBER OF OPENINGS: One (1), full-time position for the 2017-2018 school year.
GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Saginaw County Juvenile Detention Center Coordinator, this position will provide credit recovery support, core curriculum support and mentoring to students placed at the Saginaw County Juvenile Detention Center. The Saginaw County Juvenile Detention Center is a secured facility.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
1. Assess students using the online platform and personalize the curriculum in the online platform based on need.
2. Provide academic support to students completing credit recovery courses in the online platform.
3. Instruct students regarding educational issues such as course completion, district assigned core curriculum work, goal setting both short and long term, and career/college opportunities.
4. Provide encouragement and motivation in order to prepare students for transitioning to their home districts.
5. Mentor students in decision-making and file reports that detail individual assessments, provide insight to current situation, and opportunities for future action plan efforts.
6. Communicate regularly with student transition liaison and program coordinator on student progress and concerns.
7. Participate in and pursue personal learning on the topics of poverty, at-risk, student engagement, and interventions.
8. Participate in all facility trainings on security, communications, and protocols.
9. Maintain student records on credit recovery completion and provide reports to the communication liaison.
10. Maintain student records on district assigned core curriculum work and work with the communication liaison to ensure districts receive the work. |
| Experience Required: | MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must possess valid Michigan Teachers Certification with Secondary Endorsement.
2. Must be familiar with multiple forms of technology.
3. Must demonstrate knowledge of working with high at-risk student populations.
4. Must have knowledge of, demonstrate confidentiality practices, and maintain confidentiality of work, work product, etc. at all times.
5. Must have highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal.
6. Demonstrated proficiency, accuracy, and timeliness in the handling of detailed work assignments.
7. Must be highly organized; demonstrate initiative and be a self-starter in the completion of tasks, assignments and projects.
8. Must be able to communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and school administrators.
9. Must be able to work successfully with students, parents, staff, advocacy groups, and the community.
10. Must be able to work well with others as a team member in a work team environment.
11. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
12. Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
13. Willingness to learn and utilize basic computer software programs.
14. Must have good references.
COMPENSATION: As per Saginaw Intermediate School District’s Teacher contract. |
