Event Description:

The Saginaw Art Museum is thrilled to be hosting acclaimed Chinese artist and graphic novelist Min Lu for this month's Family Day! From 1-3pm on Saturday, May 20, join Min Lu in celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month by creating your very own comic strip! To begin, Min Lu will present a few examples of her published works, and will talk a bit about China’s history as well as the history of graphic novels and their usefulness for conveying a narrative (storytelling). She will then assist participants in formulating a story and drawing the images they desire. By the end of the afternoon, participants will have a completed their own four-page graphic booklet! This activity is provided free of charge to children ages 15 and under, and is free with regular admission for anyone over 15 ($3 for students or seniors; $5 for adults). Please note that the number of participants is capped at 20, and that young children must be accompanied by an adult. As such, RSVP's are encouraged, though not required. To do so, please contact Eric Birkle, Associate Curator of Arts & Education at ebirkle@saginawartmuseum.org. All art materials will be supplied by the museum. Certain materials may become hazardous if used improperly - always follow instructions given by staff leader. We hope to see you for an afternoon full of learning and fun.
