In July 2018, the Department of Labor released its Final Rule regarding the expansion and scope of participation in Association Health Plans. At its heart, the Final Rule is a modification of the definition of "employer" under ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act). It allows for the expansion of the pool of employers who may come together and sponsor group health coverage.
