Camp Healing Hearts, a bereavement camp for children, teens, young adults and families, is set for Saturday, May 19. The camp, hosted by St. Mary’s of Michigan and Heartland Hospice, will take place at the Children’s Zoo at Celebration Square and is intended for any child or teen that has experienced the death of a loved one.
The grief day-camp allows for everyone to have a safe place to talk with others who have experienced a similar loss. It will also help them recognize appropriate and healthy ways to express grief through the program activities. Those activities will cater to different age groups and include arts, crafts, musical activities and a non-denominational memorial service. There will also be plenty of fun! Lunch and a t-shirt will be provided. A corresponding educational program will also be provided for parents and guardians to learn how to cope with a loss as a family.
Camp Healing Hearts encourages safety, sharing, learning, trust and fun times together.
There is no charge to attend Camp Healing Hearts but pre-registration is required.
Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. at the zoo and the day will come to a close at 2:00 p.m.
Volunteers are also needed to assist with the Camp. Volunteers will have the opportunity to be a paired with a participant for the day.
