Employment Legislation and Case Update – What you don’t know can hurt you!
By: Joshua Leadford

Don’t wait until an employee sues your company to learn about recent legislation and case law developments that may impact your business. Josh will present an important update on the past year’s employment law developments. Learn how the courts have interpreted the ADA, FMLA, ADEA, Title VII and a host of other laws affecting your workplace, and what new laws the legislators have enacted that will require you to be prepared. Josh will pinpoint, in very practical terms, 2016-2017’s significant court decisions, legislative developments, and regulatory changes, and what you must do to protect your interests.

They Won’t Come to Work . . . What do we do?
Presented by: Elizabeth Peters

Intermittent FMLA, pregnancy, workers’ comp injuries, alleged disabilities, no call/no shows, car problems, child care problems, “my dog ate my cell phone,” the list goes on and on. You’ve heard the myriad of excuses why employees refuse to come to work or can’t arrive on time. Now what do you do? Today’s plethora of state and federal employment laws make it nearly impossible for employers to return employees to work, or do they? In her always entertaining, but ever so informative style, Elizabeth Peters will give employers practical, useful advice on how to address employee absenteeism so that employees will be at work, or be looking for another job.

Say it Ain’t So! The Top Ten Reasons Why Employers Get Sued
Presented By: Brian Swanson and Richard Vary

Employees are great until they’re not. And when they’re not, unfortunately expensive lawsuits sometimes are the result. Brian and Dick have reviewed their nearly 60 years of combined litigation files and have identified the top 10 reasons (mistakes, really) that employers make that too often turns a difficult relationship into a very costly and traumatic lawsuit. In their presentation, Brian and Dick will explain how employers can turn worst practices into best practices to protect themselves from the high cost of employment law claims.

Making Labor Law Great Again? Anticipated Changes in Labor Law Under the Trump Administration
Presented By: Kraig Schutter

With the election of Donald Trump as President, the labor-friendly regulatory course advanced by Barack Obama and assumed to continue under Hillary Clinton, was fundamentally interrupted. Mr. Trump signaled in the early days of his administration that he would be cutting red tape hampering business, including burdensome labor law rules and regulations. At the same time, however, he made a point of reaching out to labor unions and working people, including the signaling of a federal minimum wage hike and potential expansion of leave entitlements.

Kraig Schutter will provide an update of the labor law rules and regulations already adjusted under the Trump administration, along with his assessment of where the Trump administration is headed in the long run relative to labor and employment law.
