Event Description:

Musical events of a “haunting nature” mark the month of October here at historic First Congregational Church of Saginaw. On Sunday, October 8, 2017 at 6:00 PM, a concert/movie event features the 1925 movie, Phantom of the Opera livestreamed onto a screen in the sanctuary while Dr. Quincy Dobbs accompanies the movie with organ music from the restored 1929 E.M. Skinner organ. Phantom of the Opera is a 1925 American silent horror film adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel Le Fantôme de l’Opéra directed by Rupert Julian and starring Lon Chaney as the Phantom. The deformed Phantom haunts the Paris Opera House, causing murder and mayhem in an attempt to make the woman he loves a star. The film also stars Mary Philbin, Norman Kerry, Arthur Edmund Carewe, and Gibson Gowland. It was best known for Chaney’s ghastly, self-devised make-up which was kept a studio secret until the film premiered. The film was released on November 25, 1925. Come in costume if you wish. The reception will feature witches brew, opera cake and French macaroons.

Directions:
