Event Description:
The East Side Soup Kitchen is planning its fifth annual “A Michigan Sampler,” a fundraising event that celebrates the unique and delicious food, drink and “swag” our region and state have to offer. This year’s event will be held Monday, October 16, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Castle Museum in downtown Saginaw.
“We decided to bring our signature event downtown this year – closer to the soup kitchen and also to many of the people we serve,” said Director Dawn Goodrow. “Being a part of Riverfront Saginaw is energizing, and we’re thrilled to be able to help showcase the Castle Museum and bring attention to this downtown gem. Its place in Saginaw – and Michigan – history and fits perfectly with the event theme that celebrates our region and state.”
Enjoy sweet and savory samples, smooth jazz, and support a worthy cause. Goodrow, who also owns dawn of a new day coffee house on Washington Ave., added that staff from the soup kitchen and the downtown business will join forces to cater the event, with locally sourced and Michigan delicacies donated specifically for “A Michigan Sampler.” Michigan beers, wines and nonalcoholic beverages will be featured, and guests can enjoy the smooth jazz sounds of Robert Lee Revue while bidding on a wide selection of Michigan-inspired silent auction items. Some of the auction items include a “Pure Michigan” Adirondack chair and table set built by inmates at the Freeland prison, a stained glass work of art of the state by a local artist, and many other baskets and certificates from local businesses.
“It’s going to be a wonderful evening!” said Goodrow. “Our region and state has so much to offer and we want to celebrate that. We also want to recognize these locals and thank them for their generosity in helping the soup kitchen provide the many meals we serve our community. It is our local community supporting this mission, and we are grateful for that.
Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at the East Side Soup Kitchen or call 989-755-3663. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.
