Event Description:

Colorectal cancer remains the nation's second leading cause of cancer-related deaths for men and women. In Michigan alone, the American Cancer Society estimates more than 4,500 cases of colorectal cancer will be reported this year, along with nearly 1,700 deaths resulting from this disease. The good news is that with regular screenings, lives can be saved.

March – National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month – is the perfect opportunity to learn more about this disease and obtain a screening.

St. Mary's of Michigan Seton Cancer Institute will offer a no-cost colorectal cancer prevention and screening program Wednesday, March 21 at 6 p.m. in the first-floor conference room of St. Mary's of Michigan Towne Centre.

Maggie Rettelle, a registered dietitian and clinical nutrition manager at St. Mary's, will discuss how eating a healthy diet can help prevent and fight colorectal cancer.

In addition, all eligible participants will receive a take-home colorectal cancer screening kit (must be age 50 and older and have a primary care physician). The high sensitivity in-home screening test is painless, easy to perform and takes only a few minutes. Once the test is completed, participants simply mail their test kit in a postage-paid envelope to the lab at St. Mary's where the samples are analyzed. Results will be sent to participants as well as their primary care physician for review and follow-up.

Registration is required; call St. Mary's of Michigan Seton Cancer Institute at 989.907.8115 to reserve your spot.

St. Mary's of Michigan Towne Centre is located at 4599 Towne Center Road in Saginaw Township at the corner of Towne Centre and Schust.
