Event Description:
Explore the world of paper conservation, the process of returning a piece of art to its original state, with Liz Sorokin, a paper conservator for Midwest Art Conservation Center! Since 2010, the Midwest Art Conservation Center has worked alongside the Museum in an effort to survey and conserve 25 of 129 life figure drawings of Marshall Fredericks. Thanks to a generous grant by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, conservation treatment was completed in 2020 on the 25 chosen due to their fragile condition and curatorial importance. Sorokin will discuss the conservation process, touching on how treatment steps were determined, the techniques that were involved in stabilizing the drawings, and how the final results will benefit the collection in the long term. The presentation will also include a brief introduction to art conservation as a career.
