Delta Planetarium Hosts Apollo 15 Livestream Event

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the greatest Apollo moon missions, the Delta College Planetarium in Bay City will host a Facebook Live event about the Apollo 15 mission on Thursday, July 22 at 7 pm. Mike Murray, Planetarium Manager, will present the half-hour long online program “Magnificent Moonscapes” to take audiences on a guided tour through the spectacular scenery and discoveries made in the Apennine Mountains of the moon.

“Apollo 15 was the first of the major science missions to the lunar surface, which included three full days of experiments and the first time using the electric Lunar Rover,” says Murray. “The incredible landscape of mountains, canyons and craters made it one of most beautiful settings of all the Apollo missions. But Michigan also has a local connection to the crew because all three of them attended the University of Michigan, and we’ll take a look that as well!” adds Murray.

While the planetarium theater is not yet open to the public, this live online program will feature imagery and animation from NASA, providing viewers with an engaging visual experience. In addition, visitors can post questions in the chat window where Delta Planetarium staff will be on hand to answer them in real time.

“Magnificent Moonscapes” is free and open to everyone on the Delta College Planetarium’s Facebook page, located at https://www.facebook.com/DeltaPlanetarium . While it will play live at 7pm July 22, the presentation will be recorded and available on its Facebook site at www.facebook.com/DeltaPlanetarium/videos.
