The Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum highlights the Black Arts
Movement, an important part of the Civil Rights Movement, by hosting an in-person artists’
panel and an online, virtual artist talk. These talks are a way for the public to learn more about
the artwork in the “Harold Neal and Detroit African American Artists: 1945 Through the Black
Arts Movement” exhibition at the Museum as well as contemporary artwork that is influenced
by that movement.
The public will have an opportunity to attend virtually with both talks and also in-person at the
Museum for the artists’ panel. The artist talks are listed below:
• Virtual Artist Talk with Detroit Artist Tylonn J. Sawyer, Saturday, March 19, 2022, 12:00-
2:00pm via Zoom – registration is free but required. The talk will also be livestreamed
on the Museum’s Facebook page.
