Event Description: The Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra Presents its 4th concert of its 87th season, Romantic Reflections on March 4, 2023 at the historic Temple Theatre. The central theme of the concert is romanticism which in music took many shapes, but all include a big, rich orchestral sound, lush harmonies, and extremes of musical expression. Romantic Reflections will feature pieces from Tchaikovsky, Joseph Haydn, and Anton Bruckner. Doors to the Temple Theater open at 7pm, and the concert starts at 8pm. Tickets are available through the Temple Theater Box office by calling (877) 754-SHOW (7469) or by going to templetheater.com Tchaikovsky’s music opens the program with the Polonaise from the opera Eugene Onegin. Typical of Tchaikovsky’s dances, the Polonaise is a tuneful, catchy dance, played by a large Romantic orchestra. A style of music called Strurm and Drang [Storm and Stress] developed in the 18th-century became a precursor to 19th century Romanticism. The impassioned emotions of Joseph Haydn’s Symphony no. 88 in G-major, illustrate these characteristics. The central piece on the program is Anton Bruckner’s Symphony no. 4, “Romantic” (1874), which has broad dimensions, an expansive form, and deep expressivity. Prior to the concert at 7:20 PM there will be a Pre-Concert Talk in The Leopard Lounge of The Temple Theatre with Maestro Fouad Fakhouri where he will be discussing the history and context behind the music that you will hear from our incredible orchestra. A concert ticket is required to attend the Pre-Concert Talk, no prior registration is required.
