Event Description:

Zauel Memorial Library, 3100 N. Center Rd. in Saginaw Township, will host a tribute to Rosie, the Riveter and other World War II heroes on May 20 at 2 p.m.

Claire Dahl, a volunteer at the Yankee Air Museum in Belleville, will dress the part of Rosie as she brings the incredible story of the "Arsenal of Democracy" to life at this free program.

Women played vital roles in the work force as men went into military service during World War II. Dahl's dynamic presentation will include the history of the Willow Run B-24 Bomber Plant and the way the Detroit automotive industry came together to help win the war.

As a "Tribute Rosie", Dahl honors millions of “Original Rosies”, who were spurred on by Franklin Roosevelt’s “Arsenal of Democracy” speech to work on industrial assembly lines and help build the weapons of war. Their memories are being preserved under the auspices of the Veteran’s History Project because they are veterans of the Home Front and their personal stories add depth and detail to our national narrative.

This program will highlight the boldness, determination, creativity and bravery of American men and women as they prepared for, and then valiantly fought in World War II.

You will be amazed, energized and inspired by this chapter of American History!

The program is free and open to the public in the Dr. Kurumety Meeting Room at Zauel. No advance registration is required.
