Enjoy a tasting tour of some of Germany’s most beloved wines as the Bavarian Inn Restaurant presents its ever-popular German Wine Dinner on Friday, March 4 at 6:30 p.m.
The inn is teaming up with Great Lakes Wine & Spirits, Michigan’s largest distributor, to present an exclusive collection of fine German vintages for guests to enjoy, with commentary from the distributor’s wine expert, Carl Tacey. Bavarian Inn Executive Chef Phil Fahrenbruch; a 2012 Silver Plate Award winner; has planned a five-course feast featuring creative food and wine pairings.
The starter course is cranberry apple grilled chicken salad over arugula, accompanied by a Dr. Fischer Riesling von der Saar. Wines grown in the Saar valley are known for their refreshing finish and crisp acidity.
Next, a serving of slow-braised pork cheek over ravioli with natural demi-glace with a fruity off-dry wine from the world-famous Bockstein vineyards slope of the Mosel River region – Spicy Goat Riesling by Weis & Hofstätter.
Chef Fahrenbruch is also preparing grilled shrimp over truffled porcini risotto, paired with the Bavarian Inn’s signature Riesling Kabinett, a semi-dry, lighter body wine produced from the full harvest.
The entrée is prime rib sauerbraten with Bavarian Inn spätzle, served with the Bavarian Inn’s Dornfelder, a smooth-textured dry red varietal, and one of Germany’s most popular red wines.
The dessert course is the Bavarian Inn’s famous Apfel Kuchen with vanilla bean cream, paired with a St. Charles Piesporter Goldtropfchen (“droplets of gold”) Spätlese Riesling from the Mosel, and widely regarded one the finest wines of the region.
