Saginaw Community Foundation 40th Anniversary Year celebration kick-off event

Saginaw Community Foundation (SCF) will be hosting its 40th Anniversary Year kick-off celebration on Thurs., Feb. 15 from 5-8 P.M., at the Castle Museum of Saginaw County History, 500 Federal Ave., Saginaw. A brief program will begin at 6 P.M.

In 1984, the Junior League of the Saginaw Valley (now known as the Junior League of the Great Lakes Bay Region) established SCF with an initial gift of $50,000 in recognition of the League’s 50th Anniversary in Saginaw. The introduction of SCF to the community occurred at the Castle Museum forty years ago.

“We are thankful for the visionary leadership of all who were involved forty-plus years ago to help establish the Saginaw Community Foundation and we are excited to return to Castle Museum where the Foundation was introduced to the community to celebrate and commemorate this important milestone,” said Reneé Johnston, president and CEO, Saginaw Community Foundation. “With the continued support of individuals, businesses, our nonprofit agency partners, and community leaders, SCF is building a flourishing community for all, for good, for ever.”

The program portion of the event will feature remarks from Reneé Johnston; John Shelton, board chair, Saginaw Community Foundation; and members of the Junior League of the Saginaw Valley from 1984 to share their stories about the creation of Saginaw Community Foundation.

A calendar of several community events to celebrate SCF’s 40th Anniversary will be shared at the event as well as details about a fundraising challenge to be issued by SCF’s Board of Director’s. The fundraising challenge will establish a new unrestricted endowment fund to benefit the community via SCF’s competitive grant process.
