Students ready to make SVSU homeĀ |

Nearly 1,000 first-year students will move into top-ranked dorms Saginaw Valley State University will welcome more than 900 new students to its award-winning residence halls when students begin to move in on Wednesday, August 20. More than 980 incoming freshmen — roughly 70% of first-year students — are expected to reside on campus. In all, more than 2,500 SVSU students choose to live in campus housing. SVSU’s student housing is in high demand; it is ranked No. 1 in the nation among 4-year public universities by the website Niche in its annual “best dorms” rankings of more than 1,400 colleges and universities nationwide (https://www.niche.com/colleges/search/best-college-dorms/?type=public). Niche bases its college rankings on several factors, including student satisfaction survey responses, which account for 70% of the Niche score. Other factors include average housing cost, housing capacity and student housing crime rate, which each account for 10% of the score. https://www.niche.com/about/methodology/best-college-dorms/. Following freshman move-in, other students will take up residence Friday, August 22 and Saturday, August 23. Classes begin Monday, August 25.
