BWell Summit 2026 tackles the Impact of Medicaid Policy Changes on Saginaw

Registration is now open for the BWell Saginaw Summit 2026 on May 1, 2026, 7:30am-4:00pm, at the historic Temple Theatre in downtown Saginaw.

This annual event offers two tracks – one for healthcare providers ($100 for 5.25 continuing medical education credits) and another for the community that is free of charge. Keynote speakers and breakout sessions will take a multi-faceted approach to four of Saginaw County’s health priorities: community health, maternal & child health, obesity & related chronic disease, and mental health & substance use.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Natasha Bagdasarian, MD, MPH, chief medical executive for the State of Michigan, and Delicia Pruitt, MD, MPH, FAAFP, Saginaw County Health Department medical director and interim CMU Medical Education Partners executive director – for a frank conversation about how Medicaid policy changes will impact Saginaw.
  • Samual Shaheen, MD, president & CEO, Shaheen Development – on how Saginaw’s community collaboration is impacting health outcomes.
  • Christina Harrington, MPH, health officer, Saginaw County Health Department – for Saginaw’s strategy for community health transformation.

Breakout sessions address a wide range of topics including:

  • Implicit bias in healthcare
  • Increasing access to healthcare
  • Menopause
  • Autism care
  • Muscle preservation strategies during weight reduction
  • Evidence-based eating plans
  • Innovations in pediatric obesity
  • Practical strategies for substance use disorder care
  • Recovery and peer support

“There is something for everyone to learn, apply to patient care, adopt for healthier living, and work individually and collectively to improve Saginaw’s wellbeing,” says Dr. Pruitt.

In addition, during lunch, BWell Champion Awards will be announced and presented to recognize local organizations and individuals who are making significant contributions toward Saginaw County becoming one of Michigan’s Top 25 healthiest communities.

Event sponsors include CMU Medical Education Partners, Covenant HealthCare, Great Lakes Bay Health Centers, HealthSource Saginaw, Michigan Department of Health & Human Services, MyMichigan Health, Saginaw Community Foundation, Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority, Saginaw County Health Department, and Saginaw County Medical Society.
