Betsy Aderholdt, Ascension Mid-Michigan president, has announced her retirement effective June 30. Chris Palazzolo, Genesys president, will serve as the new regional president effective July 1.
"I’ve enjoyed a very rich, rewarding professional career and am looking forward to relocating to the Traverse City area to spend more time with my family and traveling," Aderholdt announces.
"I am completely confident that the ministries of Ascension Mid-Michigan will be in the most capable, competent hands with Chris Palazzolo," she reports. "Chris and I have worked closely together for the last eight years and have the skill sets that complement each other extremely well.
"I look forward to working with Chris over the next 15 weeks to accelerate our track record of improvement as we continue to build upon our successes," she added.
Aderholdt joined Genesys in 2007 as President of Genesys Regional Medical Center. She was named President and CEO in 2011, and became President of the Ascension Mid-Michigan region in January 2015. In this position, she led the ministries of Genesys, St. Mary's of Michigan Saginaw and Standish, and St. Joseph Health System in Tawas. Her healthcare administration career spans 34 years.
Before joining Genesys, she worked at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City, Missouri, where she served as the organization's president for five years. Prior to this position, she worked at Carilion Health System in Virginia, Piedmont Medical Center in Georgia and Sunhealth in Georgia.
Aderholdt has been described as an exceptional leader who has been instrumental in sustaining healthcare during challenging economic times. She has been a driving force in advancing the vision for healthcare's future in the Mid-Michigan region and securing the Ascension ministry position as a nationally recognized organization for clinical excellence, innovation and healthcare reform. Chris Palazzolo's resume also is extremely impressive. Prior to his role as President of Genesys Health System, he served as the system's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) for five years. Before joining Genesys, he worked at St. John Hospital and Medical Center - an Ascension Michigan ministry - as CFO and then COO. Prior to St. John, Palazzolo served as Senior Vice President and CFO of Detroit Medical Center. He brings a diverse and comprehensive 40-year history of healthcare executive leadership.
