The Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra (SBSO) is proud to announce the opening concert of its 89th season, Beethoven’s First, featuring trumpet soloist George Goad. The concert will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 7:30 PM at the Malcolm Field Theatre, located in Curtiss Hall at Saginaw Valley State University. Doors will open at 6:00 PM.
This exciting season opener promises to be an unforgettable evening, showcasing the SBSO’s dedication to bringing world-class classical music to the Great Lakes Bay Region. The program will feature Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 in C Major, a work that marked Beethoven’s arrival as a symphonic composer and laid the foundation for his extraordinary career. Audiences will also be treated to Rossini’s Guillaume Tell: Act 1 Pas de Six, Phillip Glass’s Company, and Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in E-flat Major, performed by our esteemed guest artist, George Goad.
George Goad, a Michigan native, is an accomplished trumpet soloist and a full-time member of the Kansas City Symphony. Growing up in Rockford, Michigan, George developed a deep love for the trumpet and honed his skills under the guidance of Aaron Good and Gregory Good. His passion for the instrument has taken him to prestigious stages across the world, including performances with the Detroit Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. A graduate of The Curtis Institute of Music and The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, George brings a wealth of experience and artistry to his performances.
“We’re thrilled to welcome George Goad back to Michigan for this extraordinary concert,” said Maestro Fouad Fakhouri, Music Director of the SBSO. “His exceptional talent, deep roots in our community, and strong ties to our state make him the perfect choice to help us launch our highly anticipated SVSU concert series this coming season. This concert program is not just a celebration of timeless classical masterpieces, but also an incredible opportunity for our audiences to experience the brilliance of a young, local talent who is quickly becoming a prominent figure in the world of orchestral music.”
