Great Lakes Bay African American Leadership
Saginaw Valley African American Leadership Training Institute is the brainchild of former Saginaw County Chamber Board of Directors member Jimmy E. Greene. He consulted with community leaders in the education, faith-based and business communities, organized and recruited the inaugural class, and created a curriculum that includes presentations from some of the top leaders and employers in the region. His idea was to build relationships between current community leaders and potential leaders who were off the radar screen. Through introductions, mentoring and relationship building, the SVAALTI program encourages participants to work collectively on community projects. The program fosters an attitude of ownership for the community, a desire to create opportunities here and a willingness to mentor others. The Chamber is firmly behind the new leadership development effort and provides important resources and support for the continuation of the program.
