Leadership Saginaw County

Review the Leadership Saginaw Brochure to learn more!

Leadership Saginaw County, a personal and community leadership development program celebrating over 25 years of operation, was formed by the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce out of a recognized need that Saginaw County must develop and strengthen its own leaders.

The first 21-member class met in September of 1985. Many of the over 700 graduates of Leadership Saginaw County can be found in key positions on boards and committees of community-based organizations, in elected positions in local government and practicing their acquired leadership skills within their own occupations.

The Leadership Saginaw program has been a sound investment that continues to pay excellent dividends. Consider applying for Leadership Saginaw County or encouraging a potential community leader within your organization to participate in the program.

Course Topics
Each monthly seminar is designed to create awareness of and stimulate interest in community issues. City and county leaders from both the public and private sectors provide information, insight and analysis of the following specific areas of interest:

  • Leadership Retreat and Orientation
  • History of Saginaw County
  • The Value of Diversity
  • People Helping People
  • Government
  • Education
  • Law Enforcement & Criminal Justice
  • Economic Development & Tourism
  • Media
  • Arts, Culture & Entertainment
  • Wrap Up Retreat

Sessions often include on-site visits, tours and "hands-on" experiences. Program topics are reviewed annually and adjusted to incorporate emerging leadership and community issues.

Who Should Apply

Leadership Saginaw County has found that a diverse group of individuals make for an ideal class of participants. We encourage persons from all walks of life to apply for a position in the program. This includes persons from differing occupations, industries, and organizations.

The Selection and Recruitment Team encourages all interested persons to apply for the program. A limited number of scholarships are available to those who do not have the resources for tuition. If you live or work in any part of Saginaw County, we encourage you to apply for Leadership Saginaw.

Selection

To become a participant in the Leadership Saginaw program you must submit a written application.

Applications are reviewed by a selection team appointed by the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Candidate selection is based on demonstrated leadership ability and potential, including past and current community involvement. Individual accomplishments, expressed desire to assume expanded responsibilities of leadership and personal references are also considered.

Every attempt is made to select a group of participants representing a broad cross section of community interests and professions. Candidate selections will be announced in early June.

Applications for Leadership Saginaw County are available with an April 30 deadline for the following year's class. For more information please contact Veronica Horn at (989) 757-2113 or by email at veronica@saginawchamber.org.
